Planning for Productivity

If you’re a full time online marketer working for themselves (not with clients), it’s hard to maintain productivity. It’s easier to hop on the XBOX all day, it’s easier to watch TV, it’s easier to crack open a six pack, it’s easy to be distracted by AIM, web browsing, YouTube, Amazon, Best Buy etc… Because you aren’t required to work.

Starting Monday I’m planning for productivity. This means I’m going to plan my entire day from the minute I hop out of bed to the minute I hop back into bed. Lets hope this increases productivity ;)

Required Materials

  1. Planner - I bought a normal notebook sized planner that you can find anywhere.
  2. Pen - Check out these bad boys.
  3. Brain.

My Average Day Would Be Like…
How an average day would look like:

  • 7:00 AM - Wakey Wakey!
  • 7:00 AM - 7:30 AM - Breakfast. Paul’s breakfast is just plain hilarious.
  • 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM - Workout at the Gym across street.
  • 8:45 AM - 9:15 AM - Shower and dress.
  • 9:15 AM - 9:45 AM - Read/respond to emails.
  • 9:45 AM - 10:00 AM - Ping the industry friends, managers etc. to see “What’s up?”
  • 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM - Check stats.
  • 10:30 AM -10:45 AM - 15 minute break, grab a drink, grab a snack.
  • 10:45 AM - 12:15 PM - Continue work on any open projects.
  • 12:15 PM - 1:00 PM - Check/optimize campaigns.
  • 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM - Lunch
  • 1:45 PM - 2:00 PM - Read/respond to emails/pings.
  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM - Start new project or continue working on open projects.
  • 3:00 PM - 3:15 PM - 15 minute break, grab a drink, grab a snack.
  • 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM - Research new projects.
  • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Chill session: read blogs, email, news, shoot the shit, forums etc.
  • 5:15 PM - 5:30 PM - 15 minute break, grab a drink, grab a snack.
  • 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - Blog time!
  • 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM - Whore the marketplace for web real estate :)!
  • —- 7:00 PM Close of Business —-

There’s likely to be some rearranging later, but this is a solid 12 hours of pure productivity baby, plus plenty of breaks to keep you from getting “worker’s block” during the day.

    * 8:30 AM - 9:15 AM - Work on projects
    * 9:15 AM - Walk to class
    * 9:30 AM - 11:00 AM - CLASS/Work on projects on laptop during class
    * 11:00 AM - 12:15 PM - Continue work on any open projects/LUNCH
    * 12:15 PM - Walk to class
    * 12:30PM - 1:50 PM - CLASS
    * 1:50 PM - 2:00 PM - Walk to Weight Room
    * 2:00 PM - 4:15 PM - Workout
    * 4:15PM - 5:00 PM - Make Post-workout Shake/Catch up on news and try and recoup
    * 5:00PM - 5:30 PM - Shower up
    * 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - Dinner Time
    * 6:30 PM - 10:00 PM - Work on projects / Ideate / Plan
    * 10:00PM - 11:00PM - Homework / Class projects
    *11:00PM - 11:15PM - Slow-absorbing proteins (cottage cheese, protein shake)
    * 11:15PM - 12:30AM - Work on Projects
    * 12:3oAM - hit the hay.
