Facebook Monetization, Secret Strats of!

Thursday, January 31st, 2008

Andrew Wee posts a video of “Chickenhole” discussing Facebook monetization.

I mean, most of us already know the potential in Facebook applications. Most of us already know about the “polls/surveys” technique to monetize zip submits. But when an application does $1 mil in a week, that turns heads. These monetization strategies presented in the video by Chickenhole blow everything else out of the water.

Get going.

Good Bye Ringtones, Google Adwords Swings the Final Slap?

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

The short history of this post is that recently I’ve been trying to put up some ringtones campaigns up. Ok so just a few days ago I got slapped by the “mobile subscription service” crap they give everybody who doesn’t comply with their mobile subscription policy. Well I fixed my page, added the “Google compliant” offers and resubmitted the ads, this was yesterday

So today I received a couple emails that are not only declining the ads, but saying that they don’t permit any mobile subscription services period?

ringtonesbye.gif

Now, is it only me or is Adwords putting their foot down and no longer allowing mobile subscription advertising?

Can’t wait until the morning when I give them a call, I’ll keep everyone posted.

UPDATE (Jan 31): Considering I had 22k+ ads declined, they need to manually review my case. There is no ETA.

S.eriously.com, Where the Rich Marketers Post Checks

The UberAffiliate started this site up called S.eriously (http://s.eriously.com). It’s pretty entertaining.

Your new goal is to be there too. Where do you stand now?

Adwords Bots and Mobile Subscription Services

Tuesday, January 29th, 2008

So I was on the phone just a minute ago with an Adwords respresentative about one of my ringtones campaigns. It repeatedly got disapproved for “mobile subscription services“, even though my site was fully compliant with all their policies.

The representative looked over the site she was like “yeah you have the opt in, the price and the cancellation information even though one of the pages had the information a bit lower, but that shouldn’t be a problem” (that’s not exactly what she said but it’s pretty close). She also said that the bot could have found something and automatically disapproved it. So she forwarded to manual review.

Well, we obviously know it was the bot because my ads were getting disapproved during non-work hours. But the crazy thing is that I just learned a ton about the bot and what it checks for with the mobile subscription services.

<theory>

  1. The opt in check box of course is easy to check for.
  2. The price displayed needs to be in the content, otherwise it may flag a manual review or decline it.
  3. The cancellation information is in the content or it will decline it or flag a manual review.
  4. All the above must be prominently place aka within 800 x 600 resolution aka “above the fold” or at least not miles below the fold.

</theory>

Very intriguing information, I’m definitely going to be running some “tests” to try and validate these premises.

Radio Show Proposal on WebmasterRadio.fm
Affiliate Marketing
“Up and Coming”

Brief
There is and always will be an ever-growing audience of new affiliates attempting to break into the search marketing industry every day but have little to no direction, no technical knowledge or no industry friends to guide them. Instead of presenting advanced concepts that almost-always prove difficult in application, this show will uncover the fundamentals and topics of affiliate marketing in an easy-to-understand fashion that will help affiliates grow and expand their knowledge for success.

Show Contents (30 Mins)
Introduction

  • Highlight the latest “buzz” in the affiliate marketing space including blog topics, strategies, humor and current/upcoming events that are related to the industry.
  • Outline the show and lead into commercial break.

Main Portion

  • In depth discussion on a specific topic.
  • Potential topics: methods of making money, improving quality score, monetizing, testing, expanding, useful scripts, content, financing, budgeting, optimizing, managing, outsourcing, resources, researching and useful tools.

Interview

  • An interview with a leader, upcoming leader or even just a successful affiliate in the industry, what he/she does and any exciting future developments.
  • Extract useful tips, advice and stories to aspire new affiliates to get going!
  • Get the interviewee’s opinions on some of the major “buzz” in the industry.

Conclusion/Questions

  • Q & A
  • Tie together all topics covered during the show.
  • Build excitement for the next episode and initiative energy to just go do something!

Who is Your Target Audience?
I’m aiming specifically towards new affiliates in the industry and the “up and coming” successful affiliates. I believe this will be much more valuable for the audience because what we discuss is what really works right now versus an already established affiliate speaking in retrospect.

Why Should We Consider This?
Up and Coming will bring a fresh inspirational way of presenting affiliate advice. No more self-promoting blogs, no more already-been-chewed information and definitely no affiliate links. Just simple, straightforward exciting ways to create success as an affiliate and have fun along the way! This show will be fast-paced and information loaded. No umms, ohs, yeahs, just a continuous stream of valuable information.

My goal is to push people to initiate and experiment. I want to build so much excitement about making money that my listeners will have no excuses and just go out and grab a piece of success for themselves. I want to see people just do it! And then tell me about it later. I’d like to bring as many passionate people as close to success as I can because people that are willing to work hard deserve a chance.

Why Should We Consider You?
2 years ago all I did was follow blogs, ebooks, podcasts hoping that the next post/episode will be “the one”, only to find out it was a serious waste of time. When I dropped my naivety and dove into the work, I created more success than ever in a fraction of the time I spent following blogs.

Although I have no radio experience, I believe I have the character, charisma, ever-expanding experience and exciting presence to build a successful show. On top of all that, I Aced speech class! ?

After I rack up a handful of signatures comments, I’ll shove this in Daron’s face and he wouldn’t be able to say no.

Thank you so much for your support!

Planning for Productivity

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

If you’re a full time online marketer working for themselves (not with clients), it’s hard to maintain productivity. It’s easier to hop on the XBOX all day, it’s easier to watch TV, it’s easier to crack open a six pack, it’s easy to be distracted by AIM, web browsing, YouTube, Amazon, Best Buy etc… Because you aren’t required to work.

Starting Monday I’m planning for productivity. This means I’m going to plan my entire day from the minute I hop out of bed to the minute I hop back into bed. Lets hope this increases productivity ;)

Required Materials

  1. Planner - I bought a normal notebook sized planner that you can find anywhere.
  2. Pen - Check out these bad boys.
  3. Brain.

My Average Day Would Be Like…
How an average day would look like:

  • 7:00 AM - Wakey Wakey!
  • 7:00 AM - 7:30 AM - Breakfast. Paul’s breakfast is just plain hilarious.
  • 7:30 AM - 8:30 AM - Workout at the Gym across street.
  • 8:45 AM - 9:15 AM - Shower and dress.
  • 9:15 AM - 9:45 AM - Read/respond to emails.
  • 9:45 AM - 10:00 AM - Ping the industry friends, managers etc. to see “What’s up?”
  • 10:00 AM - 10:30 AM - Check stats.
  • 10:30 AM -10:45 AM - 15 minute break, grab a drink, grab a snack.
  • 10:45 AM - 12:15 PM - Continue work on any open projects.
  • 12:15 PM - 1:00 PM - Check/optimize campaigns.
  • 1:00 PM - 1:45 PM - Lunch
  • 1:45 PM - 2:00 PM - Read/respond to emails/pings.
  • 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM - Start new project or continue working on open projects.
  • 3:00 PM - 3:15 PM - 15 minute break, grab a drink, grab a snack.
  • 3:15 PM - 4:00 PM - Research new projects.
  • 4:00 PM - 5:00 PM - Chill session: read blogs, email, news, shoot the shit, forums etc.
  • 5:15 PM - 5:30 PM - 15 minute break, grab a drink, grab a snack.
  • 5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - Blog time!
  • 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM - Whore the marketplace for web real estate :)!
  • —- 7:00 PM Close of Business —-

There’s likely to be some rearranging later, but this is a solid 12 hours of pure productivity baby, plus plenty of breaks to keep you from getting “worker’s block” during the day.

What’s your schedule?

Rough Week and Thoughts for the Weekend

Friday, January 25th, 2008

It’s been one hell of a rough week. I dealt with more crap in one week than a toilet does in it’s lifetime.

Here are just some random thoughts for the weekend that maybe you can relate to or make use of.

  1. It never gets easier and that’s the biggest irony to success. You will find that business becomes harder, relationships and projects become more difficult to maintain and the things that you didn’t see before, you see now (and it’s not something that puts a smile on your face).
  2. We’re affiliates and we’re powerless at the bottom of the affiliate marketing chain. Regardless of what anyway says, the advertisers control it all, the networks control some aspects and the affiliates take what is given to them even if it’s a plate of bullshit. In most cases we have to.
  3. No transparency. This is one of the worst things about affiliate marketing. Advertisers can do whatever they want because they hide behind the fog. This can be said about networks as well.

Leave this week behind. Block out the noisy things distracting you from making money. Monday is a new week, now all we can do is hope that it’s better.

STOP Accepting Scumbag Advertisers

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

I seriously just need to output my anger right now. This is one of my BIGGEST annoyances as an affiliate, it just flat out pisses me off. This would only apply to paid search affiliates.

<pissed>

Why the hell do networks accept asshat fricken advertisers who use popups and exit pops? Holy shit. Look at it in our standpoint for crying out loud: 99% of the legitimate ad networks DON’T ACCEPT POPUPS, POPUNDERS, EXIT POPS OR OTHER SCUMBAG TACTICS.

All you’re FRIGGIN doing by accepting these ignorant advertisers or trying to monetize exit traffic yourselves is frustrating the affiliates, creating more problems and restricting them to where they can advertise.

On top of all that, DO WE EVEN GET PAID if someone happens to convert on one of these popups? I’m sure it’s all shaved clean anyway, so WTF?

</pissed>

Please, do us all a favor.

Link Love for a Birthday Boy?

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

It’s really my birthday today, I’m 20 (aww what a tease). How about some link love for an up and coming no bs affiliate blog? :)

I’d just like to thank everybody that took the extra effort, the few minutes out of their day to wish me a happy birthday!

No big plans today but definitely not going to overload my mind with work!

The real countdown starts now, 365 days. ;)

Why You Need To Just EFFEN Do It!

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

When was the last time a blog presented you with such rich, detailed and awe-inspiring information that you literally took those concepts, applied it that same night and started making money? Perhaps a better question would be: has that ever occurred?

The cold truth of this cutthroat industry is that nothing is given without a price tag. When your naivety leads you to follow blogs that lure you with a never ending stream of already-been-chewed strategies, you’ve more or less failed.

Truly successful people find success whether it’s through hard work or just sheer luck but never is it given for free. The fact that you haven’t built the motivation and lack the initiative effort to invest in valuable experimentation, already makes you a failure. Nobody ever succeeded on the first try, but many prevailed on their second try and many more prospered on their third try.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that you’re interested in the internet marketing industry and you want to research all you can. Blogs are a great resource in some aspects and for some purposes, but the two months you’ve wasted following a blog equates to just a few days of experimentation! Be a trooper, a “go getter”, a leader and pretend to know what you’re doing (it helps) because it’s undoubtedly more valuable than the crap you’re being fed right now.

I finally stopped failing last year. I decided to tread my own path instead of following thousands of others to the same gold mine that may or may not have existed. I dug dozens of empty holes but have struck gold many times. No blogs, no forums, no ebooks, just plain intiative.

Consider this: you can lead yourself to potential success or you can have a stranger lead you to potential success - choose your destiny.
